Cali OG Strain: Kush, Coffee and an Indica-Leaning Hybrid
Cali OG in brief
Cali OG is an OG-family cultivar with an earthy Kush base and a roasted coffee note sitting on top of it, stocked in our Indoor tier. Cali OG is sourced from a cultivation partner using controlled indoor cultivation. Black Tie does not cultivate flower itself. The batch we are holding, Cali OG (Indoor) THCA Flower, reports 29.25% THCA and 3.12% total terpenes, which is the highest terpene figure across the five strains we are writing up this month.
The coffee is the thing that makes it worth a page of its own. Plenty of OG cuts give you earth, pine and fuel. Far fewer give you something that reads as roasted. Gas Face is where to go for the straight-fuel end of the same family.

What the records actually say about the genetics
This is the part where we have to be careful, because the published record and our listing do not line up.
Our product listing places Cali OG in the Kush family and classifies it as an indica-dominant hybrid, without naming parents. Leafly, which carries an entry for the name, states that Cali OG is a cross between unknown parent strains, bred by unknown breeders, and classifies it as a balanced hybrid at 50% sativa and 50% indica.
So: there is no documented parent cross for this name, no breeder claims it, and the two sources that do describe it disagree on where it sits on the indica and sativa axis. We looked for a seed company record and a genetics database entry and found neither. If a disagreement like that is new to you, what those labels can and cannot tell you is worth ten minutes.
What that leaves is a cultivar named for a family rather than a pedigree, which is common with OG derivatives. We are attributing the indica-leaning description to our product listing, because that is where it comes from, and we are not going to invent a lineage to fill the gap. The measurable facts about this batch are in the COA section below, and those we can stand behind.
What OG actually denotes
OG is one of the least precise labels in cannabis, which is part of why the Cali OG strain record is as thin as it is. It attaches to a large and loosely related family descending from OG Kush, and it has been applied to selections, crosses and renamings for long enough that the label now signals a style more than a pedigree.
So when you search Cali OG effects or Cali OG THCA flower and find a dozen descriptions that do not quite agree, that is the family being imprecise rather than any one seller being careless. The batch report is the part that is specific.
Kush and coffee: the flavor profile
Our listing describes the aroma as rich earthy Kush blended with roasted coffee, fresh herbs, a citrus edge and a classic dank undertone. On the draw it reports sweet earthy Kush and roasted coffee leading, then warm spice and herbal notes, finishing with a smooth citrus and a lingering pine.
The measured terpene panel makes an unexpected case for that description:
| Terpene | Mass |
|---|---|
| Linalool | 0.780% |
| Nerolidol | 0.720% |
| ß-Myrcene | 0.570% |
| α-Humulene | 0.500% |
| δ-Limonene | 0.410% |
| Fenchol | 0.078% |
| Camphene | 0.031% |
| 3-Carene | 0.028% |
| Total Terpenes | 3.12% |
Linalool leading an OG profile is not what most people would predict. Linalool is the floral, softly spiced compound more usually associated with lavender-leaning cultivars, and here it sits above everything else. Nerolidol, woody and floral, is right behind it. Myrcene and humulene supply the earth and the herbal weight, and limonene at 0.410% is the brightest citrus reading of the three full-panel batches this month.
Coffee is not a terpene. Roasted, toasted and coffee-like impressions in cannabis come from combinations rather than from any single analyte on the panel, so there is no row in that table to point at. At 3.12% total terpenes, this batch carries a comparatively substantial measured terpene concentration. The individual terpene results provide additional context for the layered sensory profile described on the product listing. Animal Tree is the other cut we stock where the terpene total is the headline rather than the THCA figure.
ß-caryophyllene, α-pinene, p-cymene, eucalyptol and terpinolene each came back ND. That means the laboratory could not measure them above its reliable threshold on this sample, not that pepper or pine are absent from what you smell. The listing does report a pine finish.
Dense and frosty: what the buds look like
Our listing describes chunky, medium-to-large forest green buds with tightly stacked calyxes, thick orange pistils running through them, and heavy milky-white trichome coverage. Density is called medium-hard.

Moisture content on this batch is 9.75%, the lowest of the five we are covering this month. Moisture is measured because it is part of how the percentages are calculated, since mass includes water, and it is one quiet reason two batches of the same cultivar can read differently on potency. How to read a THC or THCA lab test explains why that row is on the certificate at all.
What the Full Panel COA reports
The report was issued by FESA Labs on 5 June 2026, from a sample tested on 4 June 2026. Batch Result: Pass. The full certificate is linked on the product page.

| Total Cannabinoids | 29.81% |
| CBGA | 0.457% |

Product details (from our product listing, not the COA): Indoor tier · indica-dominant hybrid · medium-hard · afternoon or evening · harvested May 2026.
The Total THC line is arithmetic rather than a separate measurement: the certificate converts the measured THCA into the THC it would yield after decarboxylation and adds the Delta-9 already present.
Residual pesticides, residual solvents and processing chemicals, mycotoxins, heavy metals, microbial impurities and foreign material each report Pass, which is the laboratory’s result for the sample it tested.
One point worth making for anyone comparing across our shelf: this is an Indoor batch with a Full Panel behind it. All of our Exotic material is accompanied by a Full Panel COA, while Indoor material is not always Full Panel tested. Cali OG is one of the Indoor batches that is, which is why there is a terpene table on this page and not on every Indoor strain review we publish. Our lab results page shows which batches publish what.
Indica-dominant hybrid: what that means here
Black Tie’s current batch is described as opening with a clear-headed lift before settling into a physical ease, with the heavier side arriving gradually rather than at once. The time of use our listing names is the back half of the day.
Individual experiences vary, and the indica-dominant label is a description of the cultivar rather than something the certificate measures. As noted above, Leafly describes the same name as an even 50/50 hybrid, so even the description is not settled. Read the classification as a starting expectation, not a specification. The rest of what we classify as hybrid is on the same shelf, and MOB is the heavier indica-leaning option if that is the direction you want.

Cali OG FAQs
Is Cali OG indica or sativa?
Our listing classifies it as an indica-dominant hybrid. Leafly classifies the same name as a balanced 50/50 hybrid. Neither figure comes from a laboratory test, and the published record does not resolve the disagreement.
What are Cali OG’s genetics?
There is no documented parent cross. Leafly records the parentage as unknown and names no breeder. Our listing places it in the Kush family without naming parents.
Why does Cali OG taste like coffee?
Coffee and roasted impressions come from combinations of aromatic compounds rather than from a single terpene, so there is no one figure on the panel that accounts for it. What the panel does show is a high total at 3.12%, which gives the profile more material to build layers from.
How strong is Cali OG?
This batch reports 29.25% THCA, with Total THC calculating to 25.746%. That is the strongest of the three Full Panel batches in this month’s set.
Does Cali OG have terpene results published?
Yes. This Indoor batch carries a Full Panel COA, which includes the individual terpene breakdown shown above. Not every Indoor batch is Full Panel tested.
Is Cali OG the same as Cali OG Kush?
The names are used interchangeably in most listings and databases, which is part of why the record is as thin as it is. Our page refers to the batch we have tested and are stocking.
